After You Arrive

The first days in a new country can be overwhelming. This section of Niagara’s Immigration Portal is here to give you information to help you during your first few days in Canada. It directs you to newcomer settlement agencies and provides information on opening a bank account, getting a driver’s licence and using public transit. If you are looking for information on housing, click here.

Your First Days in Ontario: A Newcomers Guide offers useful information for your first two weeks in Ontario. It is available in 24 languages, including English.

This guide, however, cannot answer all of your questions about Ontario. For example, this guide tells you how to find a place to stay when you first arrive, but it does not tell you how to find long-term housing. You can find answers to your questions about housing and many other topics on other pages in this website. Please look around and feel free to ask us for help with finding something.

Ethno-Cultural Settlement Assistance Organizations in Niagara will provide you with information about agencies that can help you settle in Ontario.

Banking in Canada is where you will find information about opening a bank account and protecting your money anywhere in the country.

Things to know about personal finances is a site you can visit to learn about the cost of living, income tax, saving money and getting a credit card.

Protecting your money in Canada is a government of Canada website with safety information about protecting your money and making wise financial choices while living in Canada.
