Weather & Climate

The Niagara region is a large area of land, between two large bodies of water called the Great Lakes (Lake Erie and Lake Ontario). Because of this, Niagara can and does experience significant changes in weather conditions throughout the year.

In the Winter (late December to March) the temperatures can be well below freezing and large amounts of snow are not uncommon. Temperatures can range from -20’C to 0’ C. Winter clothing is a must and retailers in the area keep plenty of clothing and recreational items on stock. Yes, you can still go outside in the winter !

In the Spring ( Late March to June) the temperatures will slowly begin to warm up, and the clothing will change to light jackets or none at all, and boots if it is raining. Temperatures will range from 5’C  to 15 ‘C and the spring blossoms will start to bloom.

In the Summer (Late June to September) the temperatures in Niagara can equal or be hotter than those of California, USA. Temperatures can range from 15’C to over 30’C and there is a tendency for high humidity in the summer months. Normal clothing would be light fabrics, short sleeves and short pants presuming your culture permits.

In the Fall (Late September to December) the temperatures begin to cool down and can range from 15’C to )’C. This is the time of year when the leaves fall of the tress, and many of the seasonal birds and animals migrate or hibernate for the winter. Clothing would be shoes or boot, light to medium coats and long pants. It has been know to get very cold, early in the fall season and snow before the winter begins.
